THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BUSINESS ON SATURDAY, A fair amount of businoss was transacted on tho Auckland Stock Exchange at tho call on Saturday morning. There was inquiry for most classes of Government securities. Offers for War Loan, 1958 and 1939, 4h per cent., were advanced to £99 10s in harmony with Friday's offers for the corresponding issues of Inscribed Stock, and attracted quotations of £IOO. In banks tho only change on Friday's rates was that buyers of Nationals of Australasia, ordinary, dropped 2s to £l9, and buyers of contributing dropped Is to £9 lis 6d. Sellers who had quoted £l9 7s and £9 14s on the previous day withdrew from tho market, but a late sale of contributing was made at £9 12s 6d. In insurance sellers of Australian Provincial eased 6d to 9s 6d, without business resulting. Queensland buyers were 6d firmer at 64s 6d, but again failed to attract quotations. South British were unchanged at 65s 6d and 64s 9d. There was little movement in the rates in the loan and agency section. Buyers offered 86s, an advance of Is, for Abraham and Williams, preference, but holders did not quote. lln coal the upward tendency in Renowns was maintained, and sale was made at -17s 6d, an advance of 3d on l;ist week's selling figure and of 2s 3d on the price paid when business was resumed after the New Year. More wei'e wanted at 17s 6d, sellers 18s. Westports had late sale at 30s, the current price. In miscellaneous Dominion Pictures had their first sale since August, the shares changing hands at 22s 6d, an increase of 6d. His Majesty's Arcade shares wore also sold for the first time since September, tho price being 21s 9d, a decrease of 3d. The following sales took place: National of Australasia, contributing, £9 12s 6d; Renown Collieries, 17s 6d; Westport Coal, 30s; Dominion Pictures, 22s 6d; His Majesty's Arcade, preference, 2ls 9d.
