RACECOURSE SENSATION.

ALLEGED DOPING ATTEMPT. WHITE CRYSTALS IN THISTLE. After the running of a race at tho Albion Park racecourse recently, says a Brisbane message, T. Reid, a trainer, complained to the stewards that an attempt was made before the race to dope tho colt Hydronite. The attempt was foiled, and a thistle, recovered in the horse's stall, was subsequently handed to the stewards, who will probably have the plant analysed. An inquiry into the affair was held by tho stewards. Reid said that ho instructed his boy to keep a close watch on Hydronite, as he had a feeling that something was going to happen The boy looking after the horse was suspicious of a person loitering about the stall, and tho boy walked away so as to decoy the person into making a move. Immediately tho lad left the stall the man walked up to the horse and held' out a piece of thistle. The horse, however, did not havo time to grasp it,' as a friend of Reid's knocked the man's arm up.

The man .then ran away, pursued by the lad who was left in charge of the horse, but the suspect escaped. It is reported that the thistle concealed a plug, which contained a white crystal.
