SMALL SHIP BEACHED.
WATERLOGGED CONDITION.
AUSTRALIAN COAST MISHAP.
SYDNEY. Jan. 23,
Tho Hunter River Company's steamer Alivn River. 143 tons, sprang a leak off Collaroy Beach through being buffeted by heavy seas. Her timbers were opened end water poured into her hold. The pumps were manned, but tho inrushing v.ater was too much for tho crew and tho captain beached the ship at Broken Bay. The water was then waist cieep in ihe engine-room. Tho steamer Gosford went to the assistance of tho Allyn River and transhipped her deck cargo. Later the Gosford towed the waterlogged steamer back to Svdney.
From tho time tho crew boarded the Allvn River on Monday until they arrived back in Sydney late last night none of them bad had any sleop.
