PROSECUTION AT HAMILTON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. I HAMILTON, Wednesday. An offence against the Pure Food and Drugs Act. was responsible for the appearance of Ralph Griffiths, of Rototnna, in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day, on a charge of selling milk containing less than the necessary percentage of butter-fat.
Sergeant Stark said the health inspector, Mr. J. P. Terry, tested a sample of defendant's milk. The percentage of butter-fat was 2.20 instead of the regulation percentage of 3.25.Defendant said he had not been long in the milk business and the can from which the sample was taken had not been stirred for some time. The cream was on top and ho had no idea the milk was below standard.
Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., said he believed many of Griffiths' customers had been served with milk under standard from the same can. A fine of £5 with costs was imposed.
