RAILWAYS REVENUE.
THE HOLIDAY PERIOD. EFFECT OF BAD WEATHER. In spito of Iho unfavourable weather for travel ling at Christmas, the railways in the Auckland district had a particularly busy time and the revenue did not suffer in the slightest. During the four weeks ended January 5 ordinary revenue amounted to £33,971, or £l4 in excess of the revenue during the corresponding period 12 months ago. Ihe number of passengers, 41,113, was 4835 fewer. Season tickets to the number of 1,545 were issued, bringing in a revenue of £1335, or £l6O less than a year ago. If it had not been necessary to abandon a number of excursions and if tho race traffic had not been affected the month's revenue would doubtless have been a record. Revenue to the amount of £329 was derived from tho hire of cushions on the Main Trunk expresses, £654 was derived from sleeper reservations, reserved seats brought in £533, £740 worth of scats were booked by guards on tho trains, and excursions and special trains reaped £loi>o.
