INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
WORSE THREATENS AMERICA. OPINION OF SURGEON-GENERAL. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. WASHINGTON, Jan. 10. Bacteriologists anil other scientists from 20 States, who are meeting in-Washington to study influenza, heard a paper that had been prepared by the Surgeon-General of the Health Department, Dr. 11. S. Gumming, in which he declared that a second epidemic, with a higher death-rate, may follow the present outbreak. Dr. Gumming was stricken with influenza threo days ago.
