PAINTING CONTEST.
work: for our young artists.
It is a long time since we had a painting contest, so get out your paint-boxes, boys and girls, and put to good use some of the holiday hours that are. passing so swiftly! „ , , Our new competition will be open to all readers of Boys and Girls," and will follow the lines of the most successful one held last vcar—all original work and no copying from other pictures or paintings. This may sound hard to those who havo not previously entered for one of our competitions, but it is surprising how many beautiful and interesting subjects may bo found once you start to look for them. A spiay of berries, a vase with flowers, a bright-tinted cup and saucer, a bowl of fruit, a tiny bib of landscape, there are pictures all around you. The competition will bo divided into two sections —prizewinners and non-prizewinners. Boys and girls who havo received money or book prizes in any previous painting or drawing competition arc counted as prizewinners—all others are non-prizewinners. The following prizes will be awarded: — Best painting sent in: Half-guinea prize. Two live shilling prizes for the best boy's and best girl's painting in Prizewinners' Section, over 12. Two five shilling prizes for the best boy's and best girl's painting in Prizewinners' Section, 12 and under. Similar prizes in Non-Prizewinners' Section. Also consolation prizes and mark-cards. Competitors may receive no assistance whatever, save in (he case of the little folk, who may be advised as to colours, etc. But the drawing and painting must be entirely their own. Guarantee to this effect required with each entry. Name, age an' address to be neatly written on every entry, not on separate slip, also the word " Prizewinner " or " Non-Prize winner." Entries must be folded flat, not rolled. Mark envelope " Painting Contest," and forward to Miss Eisie K. Morton, Editor " Boys and Girls," New Zealand Herald, Auckland. Entries which do not conform to rules will be disqualified. Closing date: Saturday, February 2.
