MANGERE SPEEDWAY.

DIRT TRACK FORMED. TRIAL CONTEST HELD. Although only two months have elapsed since the formation of a motor racingtrack was commenced on Mr. G. Henning's property at Mangere, the work is so far advanced that a car was driven round the 1 1-5-mile circuit yesterday at over 40 miles an hour. On Saturday a motor-cycle lapped the speedway at over 51 miles an lwtir.

The test yesterday was the result of a wager for £lO between Mr. Hcnning and Mr. H. Butcher, another member of the racing committee. When the Auckland Automobile Association decided to abandon beach-racing and to organise a dirt track meeting early next year, there was some speculation regarding tho time required to form a circular track. As a result a wager was made as to tho possibility of a car covering a lap in two minutes before the end of this year. The last filling was put in on Saturday, and although numerous rough patches still remain, a seven horse-power racing car covered the circuit in lmin. 47sec. in yesterday's test. The provident fund of the Auckland Automobile Association will benefit by the amount of the wager.
