HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Unsettled weather, with further general rain, heavy in Waikato and East Coast districts, is expected, but improving everywhere shortly. North-westerly-winds, moderate to strong, giving place to strong southerlies everywhere. Rough seas in the vicinity of Cook Strait, and 011 the south east coast of the North Island. Cooler temperatures. The disturbance which has been operating over New Zealand, resulting in rain over most of the Dominion, is now likely to pass eastward, and conditions should improve in most places after about 12 hours, accompanied by an increase in barometric pressure. The Governmenut meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—The cyclone in the Tasman Sea is now approaching Cook Strait. Anticyclones are situated over Eastern Australia and east of New Zealand. Indications aro for moderate to strong northerly winds north of Cook Strait, rising to gale force in places and backing to west and "soulhwest within about 24 hours; elsewhere moderate winds, between east and southeast, and veering southerly and freshening. Rough seas on the west coast: elsewhere smooth to moderate, but rising later souiii of Castlepoint. Winds becoming south-westerly or southerly generally soon, and strong with rouph seas in the eastern Tasman. Warm, sultry, and unsettled from. Nelson and Marlborough, northwards, with general rain, heavy in some places, with some thunder. Scattered rain also in other districts. Temperatures becoming cold everywhere after about 24 hours.
