WORK IN BOARD'S AREA.
A TOUR OF INSPECTION.
The Waitemata Electric-Power Board held a brief meeting yesterday morning prior to leaving for a tour, occupying two days, oi the area under tho board's jurisdiction Mr. J. W. Ifavden presided.
The resident engineer, Mr. P. J. H. Wilson, reported that low-tension wiring on all stretches of the Nihotupu extension had been completed, ard a considerable number of consumers connected. The laying of the 11,000-volt underground cabin at Hobsonville to the air baso had been completed, and jointing was in progress. It was anticipated tho cablo would be tested and in service before tho end of the month. Hie synchronous condenser at the Helensvillo depot was now com pletely assembled, and, on completion of the painting, would be put in continuous service. Tests indicated that the machine was capable of raising tho power factor of the Helonsvillo lino to unity, and of summation panel from ,88 to .96, which would represent a saving of 7 per cent on tho cost of power purchased at this point. A further saving couid bo effected by providing similar equipment for th« Henderson feeder, and in this connection ho proposed to place figures before tii» board at an early dale. The Greerihitli* extension at North Shore was livened ou November 12, and several consumers had been connected to tho board's mains. Connections for the month numbered 00, making tho total consumers to dato 6193. Consideration of the report was do ferred to meeting of the board to be held iri Helonsville.
Visits were paid by members of th» board yesterday morning to tho City Council's waterworks at Titirangi and the Hobsonville air base. During tho afternoon they went to Huapai, Kumou, Waimauku and Helensville, where they remained last night-
