MAILS TO NEW PLYMOUTH.
A FASTER SERVICE. A speeding-up of tho m.iil service between Auckland nnd New Plymouth is to tako effect as from Saturday next. The usual jnctlii d of despatch of piails from Auckland has been by tho ordinary Main Trunk express as far as To lvuiti, and thence by service car to Now Plymouth. Tho mail has closed at Auckland at 5.30 p.m. and tlu letters have been duo at New Plymouth at 3 p.m. tho following day. Somo timo ago tho Railway Department put on a fast passenger train to connect with the down limited express at Marton Junction for Wanganui and New Plymouth, and on t|ie represent.!: tjons of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce the Postal Department proposes tq despatch tho mails from Auckland fpr New Plymouth by this means instead pf by service car from Te Kiuti.
This will mean that tjio mail frpjn Auckland will close half an hour earlier, but it will bo available in New Plymouth somo two and p-half hours pqrjipr than at present. Tho saving of timo is important in tho case of recipients of mail in New Plymouth who are not private box holders, for tho time taken for a reply to be received in Auckland to a letter posted Jjere to such a Now }%- mouth addf-pssep will j)P reduced by ,ip-„ proximately 24 hours.
