POSTING OF BILLS.

CITY COUNCIL PROSECUTION. ADJOURNMENT FOR REMOVAL. Posters advertising the "Pigmy Man from Central Africa," which have been stuck over hoardings, fences and shopfronts during the past few days, were responsible for the appearanco in the Police Court oil Saturday morning of Allan Evans, showman, and William Gallon, billposter, charged with posting bills on premises and fences without the permission of tho Auckland City Council. Both men pleaded guilty. On behalf of tho City Council it was stated the bills had been "stuck all over the city." Tho offending parties had been warned last Tuesday that they would have to remove them, but they had failed to do

The magistrate, .Mr. F. K. Hunt, asked if any more hills had boon stuck up since l.lio warning was issued. Evans stated posting operations had been immediately suspended.

"There was no room to put up any more," said tho City Council's represenativc. "However, tho thing lias been dono on such a largo scalo and with such a disregard for the rights.of private property that tho council is pressing for tlio maximum penalty of £20." Tho Magistrate: Oh, 1 don't know about that.

Evans, tho Pigmy Man's manager, said there had been no deliberate attempt to transgress tho regulations. Tho advance manager had engaged Galbin to post tho bills and Galbin had done his job not wisely but too well, lie personally had seen the representative of a largo advertising firm, whose hoardings had been besprinkled with posters, and had paid a sum in compensation. Ho had not had time to rcrnovo tlio bills, as he had been making arrangements for tho appearance of tho Pigmy Man at the show. However, he gavo the magistrate an Hssuranco that ho would start work on Saturday night, employing two men, and would remove as many of the offending bills as possible. He was leaving Auckland on Wednesday morning, but would do his best to repair tho wrong. Tho Magistrate: Very well. then. I will adjourn tho case until Tuesday morning and then see how many you have removed. Tho more you get off tho less tho fine will be.
