MEMORIAL SCHEME FAILS. It is announced that as so littlo interest has been taken, and so few subscriptions received, in response to the appeal by the rector and churchwardens of Croft for a stained glass window in Croft Parish Church, Darlington, to the memory of " Lewis Carroll," tho scheme has had to be abandoned. „-««« . .. Tho amount aimed at was £I2OO. Worldwide publicity was given to the Croft proposal, and the net result is that the income has barely met expenditure. When the fund was first announced tho literary world was confident that it would be well responded to, and the late \\ jlbam le Queux suggested that the surplus should be expended in the upkeep of Carroll s gravo at Guildford, which ho had found in a neglect'' 1 con tion. Tho design of tho stained <rlass window was intended to be emblematic of child life.
