THOUGHTS OF HOME.
I dream of tlio deepening twilight On tlio hills and valleys of home; 1 hear (lie far cry of tlio curlew Calling its mate to roam. I stand on a dew-sprinkled meadow, Witli daisies under my feet, And my heart is filled with a wondor That is indescribably sweet. I drenn. of the ivy encircling The trees round tho edge ot the pond Where tli t fairies come in tho moonlight And still wave their magic wand; Where tho buttercups, cowslips and bluebells Play hide and seek in tho grass, And during the hush of a summer eve Tho ' Little I'coplo" pass. I dream of an old-world garden With i charm that is all its own, There is honeysuckle over tho gate And rosebcrries red on tho wall. The beds a riot of colour, A moss-covered seat on tlio lawn, Where the hum of tho bees and tho EOng of birds Tell ">f a day new-born. To dream and not to awaken Till onco again I stand On tho firm brown heath of tho moorland, 'Neath tho hills of my native land. To walk in that old-fashioned garden Would bo heaven itself to mo. Oh ! Scotia! Thou birthplace of heroes, All honour and glory to thee. —Mrs. Elizabeth Juuo Macßae, in Weekly Scotsman,
