HAPPY "LITTLE PETER."

SLUM BOY'S ROMANCE

NEW MOTHER AND A FORTUNE. A baby boy from a London slum Ims found a wonderful new liomo. When lie is 25 an incomo of £2500 a year will bo settled on him. This is ono of the daily real life romances of tlio National Child Adoption Society. Peter—such is this fortunate littlo boy's name—is already settling down happily in his new home. Ho has soon learned to know his new mother and coo happily when he catches sight of her. Ho was always a sturdy little fellow, and now he is putting on weight at a wonderful rate. It, all happened like this. A middleaged woman, well known in society, motored to tlio Baker Street headquarters of the National Child Adoption Society and saw Miss Helen Blackburn, tlio secretary. She explained that sho wanted to adopt a baby boy, contrary to tlio usual desire for a baby girl. Tho woman was taken to tlio society's nursery training centre and finally chose Peter, a chubby child only a few months old. It was not onlv Peter's happy face and healthy little body that caused him to bo chosen. His new mother is a patriotic woman, and she learned that his father volunteered for war sorvico in 1914, and his grandfather fought with distinction in tho South African War. Miss Blackburn has seen Peter several times in his new home, and says he is exceedingly happy. Peter is to have £2500 a year settled on him at the ago of 25 in order that ho may follow tho military traditions of his family by taking a commission in tho army, or, if he shows a (lair for such work, engage in medical research. These are the two careers which Peter's adopted mother has planned for him, but no doubt, if ho shows ability for another walk of life, ho will bo allowed and encouraged to choose his own career.
