SUMMER SUNSHINE.

AT HOME AT TAKAPUNA. The very large number of guests who attended tho At Home given by Mrs. W. R. Wilson at St. Leonards, Takapuna, spent a most delightful afternoon yesterday. Tho weather was perfect, with just tho lightest of breezes to temper the warmth of tho sunshine, and they were able to spend tho timo outside, if they wished, with nothing to mar their enjoyment of the beauty outspread before their eyes. Which was tho bluer, the sky or tho sea awash at tho foot of the hill, it was difficult to say, but both were of tho deep Mediterranean blue that only approaching summer can show. Rangitoto too, was softened with a light blue haze that added to its austere beauty, and tho gardens were a blaze of colours set against a background of velvety green lawns and trees beautiful in their new leafage.

To many of tho guests it was pleasuro enough to sit in tho sunshino on the terrace to greet friends, and in between times listen to the music of tho band which was stationed at ono end of it. Others again, moro energetic, played tennis or wandered about the widespread grounds, even clambering down t! 10 hill to the sea at its loot. Garden lovers who specialise in (lowers found much to interest them and admire in tho beauty and variety of tho flowerbeds, and in doing so they carao across a wonderful little dolls' house, complete to the last detail, built for tho pleasure of the tiny folk who sometimes stay there. In tho house bowls of most beautiful flowers were everywhere to be seen, and tea was served in different rooms. In the dining room the table was arranged with stocks in shades of pink, and with
