NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.

GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS. BY ARCHER. Tho injury sustnined by Avoncourt when she struck a trestle tho other morning was not severe. It caused a slight swelling 'n the forearm, but has otherwise not affected her and she has sinco been working usefully. Avoncourt is looking very bright and will strip in good order to race next week.

There has been nothing special about the latest doings of Corinax, but he has accomplished a good deal of work in Bound Btyle. Corinax is expected to make his next appearance in the Alison Cup and will be in capital trim to keep that engage ment.

At her last start Gold "Money was up against a good field of sprinters and only for getting away slowly and receiving >i bump in the last furlong she would have gone close to winning. In the meantime she has trained on splendidly and has been recording nice gallops in easy stylo. Gold Money is going to take considerable beating in the Takapuna Plate.

The Hawke's Bay trainer W. McKinnon is expected to reach Ellerslie this evening with Millais, who is engaged in tho Tuka puna Plate on the opening day of the Takapuna meeting. Millais is a three-year old gelding by Leightou from Marty and has shown useful form. As a two year-old bo won twice and ho has also been successful once this season. Millais will bo ridden in his coining engagement by 11. Wiggins and will have a good following

The two-year-olds Gemlisht and Praetor have been doing nicely and are likely to bo seen out in the juvenile handicaps nt Takapuna next week. So far Gemlight has shaped the better of tho pair and in his last start finished u &ood second. It is more than likely that Gemlight will soon leach the winning list.

Although Mervetto did not do as well ns expected after running out of hack company last season, she ran several decent races in fair class and sho may perhaps do better this season. She notched a couple of thirds at Te Rapa last month and slipht improvement on that form should give her a chance of winning at Te Kuiti, where she is engaged in a class that should suit her nicely.

When The Lamb raced at the Dargaville meeting ho had not been long in work, but he made a fair showing among tho open sprinters on the second day. He is likely to have made soma progress in the mean time and it may not be long before he displays more dash, lhe Lamb will bo nmong the runners at Te Kuiti and might show up before the meeting closes.

Town Bird has on occasions shown useful sprinting form where the class has not been strong and it would not be surprising to see lam race prominently in the sprint events at le Kuiti. It, is in his favour that lie is a good beginner and he will only have to strip well to bo supported in his coming engagements.

THE TAKAHJNA MEETING.
