THE SCHOOL PICNIC.
/ QUESTION OF ABOLITION. The question whether school picnics arc waste of money which might bo profitably spent in other directions was debated at a meeting of tho Wellington School Committees' and Headmasters' Associations, this week, Mr. J. Edie said that the life of tho average cljild in these days was 0116 long picnic. When it came to tho school picnic, the collecting of funds was usually left to the headmaster. The average school picnic might cost up to £IOO, If a £IOO subsidy was added to this, there ivould he a good sum available for providing a reference library, which would be turning tho money to far better use. Other speakers, however, doubted whether a favourable reception would bo given to the proposal to abolish school picnics, which were looked upon as important institutions. The meeting decided to placo tho matter on the agenda paper for tho next meeting-
