HAMILTON'S FOOTPATHS.
A NOVEL SUGGESTION. A novel suggestion for the permanent surfacing of footpaths was placed before the Hamilton Borough Council at its last meeting. It was stated that it was possible to secure the consent of residents in some stieets to pay a share of the cost of laying a 4ft. strip of concrete in tho streets. This would be done on condition that the council provided the earth for making a grass strip at the edge of tho concrete The cost to tho individual ratepayer would be about £2. It was suggested that the council should raise a loan of £IOOO for unemployment relief and place tho workers on the construction of the permanent surfaces. The matter was finally referred to the General Purposes Committee of tho council f-o prepare a 10port.
