EMPLOYERS' INTERESTS.
WORK OF ASSOCIATION. THE PRESIDENT RE-ELECTED. ■; The annual meeting of the Auckland, Provincial Employers' Association, held yesterday, was attended by over 70 members. Mr. Albert Spencer presided. The annual report stated that during the year 126 new members were elected,, •which more than balanced the losses duo to members giving up business. No industrial disturbances of any consequence had occurred during the year. The cers of the association had assisted tlio employers in dealing with son;e 26 indusv trial disputes, both before conciliationcouncils and the Arbitration Court.
Discussing the amendment to (he .Apprentices Act, 1923, passed by Parliament, which repealed the clauses dealing' with tho district proportion of nppren-i tices, the report stated the effect of tlift amendment had been io allow employers to engage the full individual quota of apprentices to which they were entitled under the apprenticeship orders ok tho Arbitration Court. This, to a small, extent, had relieved the position in regard, to the surplus of boys looking for apprenticeship to skilled trades, but it had, by no means solved the whole difficulty.. The balance-sheet showed tho associay tion to bo ;n a healthy position, tho excess of revenue over expenditure being. £496. The net amount added to "<>' cumulated funds was £327. ■ The Hon. E. W Alison, M.L.C., paid a tribute to the work done during tb&year by Mr, Spencer. They were for*, tunate in having a man to carry out th®' arduous duties of president so enerpeti" cally and so enthusiastically. He moved that Mr. Spencer should act as president for a further term, and this was carried, unanimously. The following executive was re elected:, Hon. E. W. Alison. M.L.C., Captain R-' C. Tm Birch The president stated three new mem* 1 bers would be elected at a later date. Sympathetic reference was made t* the death of Mr. John Milne, and to th*r illness of Mr. W. J. Cousins, vice-presi-dent, which precluded him from attending business.
