CHARGES OF FIGHTING. ' DISPUTE IN HOTEL BAR. Tho story of a fight which occurred in a city hotel bar when one man appropriated another's beer was told in the I'olico Court yesterday, when William Preston, aged 42, and William Fitzsimrnon, aged 40, each admitted charges of fighting. I'reston also pleaded .guilty to using obsceno language. Sub-In-spector McCarthy said Preston brought on tho fight by taking tho other man's freer. Stating Fitzsimmon had merely protected his purchase, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, dismissed tho charge against him. Preston, who had 34 previous convictions, was fined £2, or seven days' imprisonment on each charge. Charges of being idlo and disorderly, begging alms and assaulting Andrew Robert Forgusson, were preferred against Cletus Joseph O'Brien, aged 23. Accused, it was stated, had asked O'Brien for money to buy cigarettes, and had assaulted him when tho request was refused. A fino of £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, was imposed. " Hi; is all clothes and no money," said Chief-Detective Hammond, when Monte. Brewster, aged 31, hairdresser, appeared for sentence on three charges of stealing gramophones of a total value of £37 10s. ft was staled accused paid a small deposit for tho machines in each «and then sold them. Scufenro of three months' imprisonment was imposed on George Valentino 'lrahrWn, aged 30, charged with a breach of his probation order.
