METHODIST ORPHANAGES.
REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. A year of much activity at the Methodist orphanages was reported to tho Auckland District Synod at its session yesterday. In all 119 children are being cared for, 42 at the Wesley Home, 32 ab tho Epworth Home, and 45 at tho Epsom Home, whilo several of tho elder boys were being boarded out under supervision. During (lie year tho matron at tho Mount Albert Home, Miss Armitago, bad retired, after eight years' service, during which slio successfully devoted herself to tho caro of tho children. Her successor was Miss Johnston, from Canada. It had been found necessary to entrench on capital to avoid a heavy overdraft 011 tho current account. The sum of £221 had been received on account of legacies announced last year, but this had been required for current expenditur. Til capital debt stood at over £7OOO, interest amounting to £4lO a year. To reduce the capital- debt as soon as possible it was hoped to extend through the different districts a system of annual subscriptions. In recognition of long service on behalf of the orphanages tho Rev. Gcorgo Bond and Messrs J. l'rounson and A. C. Caughcy had been appointed life members of tho board of management, whilo tho secrotary and president of the ladies' commilteo had been appointed ex-officio members of the executive board.
