GIRLS' SPORTS DISPLAY.
INTERHOUSE ASSOCIATION.
FIFTH GATHERING TO-MORROW
The fifth annual sports gathering of the Interhouse Girls' Sports Association will be held in Carlaw Park to-morrow, commencing at 2 p.m. The officials of the association are confident that this year's demonstration is going to surpass the best they have achieved in former years. Between 400 and 500 girls, drawn from 12 different soft goods houses, retail, wholesale and factory, will be taking part. The programme includes team gimcs, sprinting, hurdling, physical culture display and competition, marching display and competition and, perhaps most spectacular of all, the "girls' brigade" display. Each house has its own distinctive colours and its own crv.
A number of cups and trophies lias been donated to the association by employers and buyers in "various houses. Orie of the chief of these is the Victoria challenge cup for the highest aggregate points in the whole of the competitive events. It is helcl by George Court's. The Sharman Cup for the highest aggregate iri team events is held by Macky, Logan's employees, the physical culture and the marching cups by George Court's, the interhouse relay cup by Ambler's and the 75vds. championship by Milne and Choyce. The work of the association is entirely voluntary and is carried on with the cooperation of the employers and of officials of the Defence Department. The employers allow a certain amount of time off for the purposes of the association and assist with their advice, while Defence Department officials train the girls in marching and drill. Lieutenant T. P. Laifev has done excellent work as organiser. Ihe fact that several smaller houses have linked up with the association this year shows that the movement is spreading and gaining recognition in quarters where it can be of great service.
