SELECTION OF TEACHERS.
PROPOSALS OF DEPARTMENT.
following further correspondence from the Education Department, Hie Auckland Education Hoard decided yesterday to comply with the former's proposals in regard to the selection of probationer teachers for the ensuing year. These provide I hat probationers should be selected on a basis of academic attainments, the department holding that such proposals provide also for consideration of personality and fitness for the profession and lliiiM carry out what is required by 10gulalion. It was statud almost general approval had been accorded the scheme. The board considered it should lie permitted to consider .ill applicants who had passed matriculation.
