GREAT HEAT IN SYDNEY.
BUSII AND SCRUB FIRES.
CITY SHROUDED IN SMOKE.
HIGH WIND FANS FLAMES. (Received November 7, U. 2."> p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 7. The temperature to-day for several hours was over 90 degrees. . The maximum, 06 degrees, was recorded at two o'clock. A boisterous hot wind from the. north-west added to the discomforts, and the city was shrouded in a smoke pall front bush and scrub fires. In the suburbs the fire brigades had a busy time, and many amateur lire-fighters were engaged in beating back the flames that raced through the dry scrub, driven by a gale that occasionally had u velocity of more than 50 miles an hour. Hush fires arc reported from many country districts A curious accident, occurred at the Waterfall Sanitarium, where, a pas-senger-bus was taking in petrol from a bowser, when a flying spark ignited the spirit. Tho bus was destroyed and the driver considerably burned.
