WATER METER CHARGES.
DECISION AT DEVONPORT. The proposed rental charges for the new water meters which nrc being installed in the borough were strongly pro tested against by several ratepayers at a meeting of the Pcvoriport Borough Council last evening • After considering individual cases it was decided on the recommendation of the Watei Committee, to waive the halfyearly meter charge of 3s 9d in cases where a meter was not in operation, and that ;uiy charges paid in such cases should be credited to the next water account. It was also decided that when a water meter is installed during tlie halfyearly period, the consumer be charged the proportion of the period up to the lime of installation on tlie old basts, and then on tlio actual consumption as registered by the meter.
