HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening: —Unsettled and showery weather is indicated, but fine, bright intervals will intervene, the general outlook favouring an improvement shortly. There is a prospect of mainly fine weather in most districts to-morrow. Southerly to southwesterly winds, moderate to strong, strong to gale at times. ' Seas rough on the west coast of the North Island, and in the vicinity of Cook Strait. Moderate elsewhere. The intense .Antarctic disturbance is moving slowly off the Dominion and passing eastward. Expect a gradual increase in barometric pressure in response to the approach of a high-pressure system from tho west. Cold temperatures and some frosts inland, particularly in the Waikato districts Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.40 in, Midnight, Thursday .. .. 20.35 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—There has been little change iu the position of iho extensive depression which has been covering New Zealand during the past three days A fresh depression is situated over south-east Australia and tho centre of the intervening anti-cyclone will probably pass north of the Dominion. Indications are for moderate to strong south to southwest winds, of gale force at places, later veering to west and north-westerly. Seas heavy on the west coast of the North Island and between East Cape and Akaroa; elsewhere rough iu New Zealand waters. Strong south-west winds in the eastern Tasnian, veering to westerly and northerly, with rough seas. Weather cold, unsettled and showery generally, with heavy falls on tho east coast between East Capo and Kaikoura. Some snow on the highlands of the South Island.
