JEWELLERY IN CUSHION.
A MYSTERIOUS FIND.
Inquiries were recently being made in London by detectives in an endeavour to trace the owner of a quantity of valuable jewellery which was taken to Scotland Yard in curious circumstances. Some time ago a taxicab was taken to a coach-builder's establishment in the Caruborwell district to have tho upholstery repaired. When workmen wore pulling tho cushions to pieces in order that tho stuffing could bo adjusted, they were surprised to discover a number of articles of jewellery, black with age, which apparently had been placed there deliberately. The jewellery consisted of gold ornaments and an intaglio necklet, with over 34 little plaques inserted at intervals. Each plaquo has exquisitoly-fashioned animals upon it. . The property was cleaned and examined by experts, who stated that it was of considerable value and probably very old. A description has been circulated throughout tho metropolitan area, but so far nobody has come forward to claim it, and. in spite of an intensive search of the register, the police have been unable to discover that tho property recovered tallies with any that lias been reported stolen or lost for a considerable period.
