LOCAL BODIES' REQUESTS. [IIV TELEC.n.U'H. —OWN COUnESrONDEXT.] TAURANGA, Friday. The retiring member of Parliament for Tauranga, Mr. C. E. Maemillan, was waited upon by a number of deputations at To Puke yesterday. Members of the Kaituna River Board asked that a reduction bo made on the fee charged by the Lands Department for the hire of the dredge. It was stated by Mr. Griffin that tho total charge for the hire of the dredge amounted to £3OOO, being at tho rate of £4 10s a day, which included idle days and periods when tho dredge was under repairs. The sum of £2OOO had already been paid toward the hiring fee. The chairman of the County Council, Mr. R. King, and Mr. H. Earp, clerk of the Te Puke Town Board, asked that the proposed alteration of the health district bo delayed for a month to enable tho local authorities to consider other arrangements.
Messrs. H. O. Coonev, chairman of the Town Board, and O. M*. Saunders asked that the Atoeroa township area be handed over to the Town Board as on endowment. Mr. Mactnillnn promised to make'representations on the requests
