A TOUR OF THE PROVINCE.
The party, widely representative of Auckland's business interests, which starts this evening on an extensive tour of the province, should from the very itinerary arranged, return with an enhanced appreciation of tho resources which enable city and country to combine in carrying on that work by which the community lives. In New Zealand, in spite of the cityward drift of population frequently deplored, town and country shade off i#to one another gradually enough for each to lie sufficiently aware of its complement in the national organisation. Few people are without at least a general appreciation of conditions in the country even though destiny confines their life to the town. At the same time, there is room for the city dweller, especially the business man, to acquire a more particular knowledge. The tour has been planned in such a way that not only will the party be able to see the country, but it will also be introduced directly to many of its most important activities. Two features of the expedition can be singled out as of special interest. Trade commissioners from overseas are in the party; their presence gives it a wider significance than if Auckland interests alone were represented. Also the great stretch of new territory brought in touch with the main railway system by the opening of the East Coast line will be visited. The partv_ will thus have an opportunity of realising what completion of this great work should mean to the province and the Dominion. Even without this, the itinerary is of a comprehensive nature. With it, tho tour should bring experiences long to be remembered by those taking part in it.
