THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

ACTIVITY IN COAL SHARES. Business generally was somewhat slacker than usual on the Auckland Slock Exchange yesterday, but a feature of tho market was tho activity in coalmining shares, which sold freely. liuyers and holders failed to come to terms for Government bonds, although more were offering. Business was dono iri New Zealand Breweries debentures at 24s sd, or 2d in advance of the price at the beginning of the month.

In banks Adelaides showed a tendency to harden, buyers offering £9 17s 6(1, sol lers £lO 6s. Now South Wales wero wanted at £sl 2s 6d, sellers £sl 10s. New Zeulauds wero on tho market at 61s 6d, buyers offering 6d less. In insurance two lots of Nationals changed hands at the current rate of 16s 4d.

in coals l'ukeiniros, which have been bringing 70s and 69s this month, sold at 68s. Buyers were offering this figuro at the two later calls. Renown Collieries, ordinary, fluctuated considerably during the day, but showed a substantial declino from the price of 17s 6d, at which they began tho week. Yesterday's sales wero made at 16s 3d, 15s 9d, 15s 9d and finally at 16s. Taupiris, which sold at tho end of last month at 26s 6d, changed hands at 26s 9d. Business was dono in Waipas at 12s 3d. They had not previously been dealt in since March, when the prico was 15s 3d.

In gas Aucklands sold at tho current rato of 23s Id. In shipping 53s was offered for P. and O. deferred stock without response. There wero wido margins in quotations for brewery shares. In mining Waihis wore wanted at 14s, sellers 14s Id.
