FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE.

MOTHER AND SON GUILTY.

NO PENALTY IMPOSED. A mother and her son were charged in tho Police Court yesterday with false pretences, the police alleging they had forged a name to a money order on tho Public Works Deoartment for £3 10s last July. According to Chief Detective Hammond the young man had obtained work by posing as being married. To carry out tho deception he made arrangements for his mother to sign a money order to delude the authorities, lie had not gamed anything by his actions.

Mr. Sullivan, for accused, said the ruan was literally married, inasmuch as he bad to support bis mother and father. Tho son had only been in work three weeks. Stating t!m action of the accused was quite wrong, the magistrate, Mr. F. K Hunt, said he would refrain from imposing a penalty Accused would bo convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. They were directed to make restitution of £2 Bs. The names were suppressed.
