QUESTION OF LICENCE FEES.
Tlie Olalmhu Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr R. B. Todd, presiding. Tho Manukau County Council made application for a refund of licence fees collected from county ratepayers by tho borbugh council. Tho clerk said it. was quite possible that tho county had issued more licences to ratepavors of (lie borough thail tho Borough Council had issued to county ratepayers. Tho matter was referred to tho Legal and Finance Committee. In connection with the Mangero Crossing water supply tho Manukau County Council decided to retain its own turncock for tho purpose and suggested that ho bo a member of tho Otahuhu Fire Brigade. Tho County Council was to pay tho fireman's time when attending fires in tho district, in addition to tho annual contribution of £lO.
Tho question of repairing Portage Road was discussed, following the reading of a lot lor from the Passenger Transport Company. The clerk soid a commission was being set up to determine tho question of responsibility for tho road, between tho councd and tl.o Mount Wellington Road Board. Nothing could he done until the commission reached a decision.
In reply to a lettor from the Auckland Manufacturers' Association it was decided to favour New Zealand-made goods wherever possible.
