FINE OF £IOOO OVERDUE. UNIONISTS NOT EMPLOYED. MELBOURNE. Oct. 21. The fine of £IOOO recently imposed on the Waterside Workers' Federation in connection with the strike of its members automatically became due yesterday as no appeal had been lodged. The Federal Attorney-General, Mr. J. G. Latham, has not indicated what steps are to be taken in the matter. Mr. G. Moate, president of tho Marine Stewards' Union, asserted that unionists are being " starved off the wharves." Ho wanted to know whether the Federal Government stood for " this vicious and vindictive policy." PAYMENT DECIDED UPON. FIRST £l5O INSTALMENT. (Received October 25, 12.50 a.in.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 21. The Waterside Workers' Federation abandoned its intention of appealing against the fine of £IOOO. It has paid £l5O on account and arranged to pay the balance in instalments spread over six months.
