CITRUS FRUIT INDUSTRY.
DOMINION COUNCIL PLAN. AID TO GREATER EXPANSION. The formation of a New Zealand Citrus Growers' Council, Limited, was decided upon at a meeting of Auckland growers yesterday morning. Mr. S. W, House, president of the Auckland Citrus Growers' Association, presided over, a representative gathering. The promoters of the scheme said the aim of a Dominion council was primarily to foster the and sub-tropical fruits industry in New Zealand. _ It would be able to engage in any business or enterprise calculated to develop and protect the growing industry or to assist members or affiliated organisations. Share capital would be purely nominal. Mr. House said the industry had made fairly good progress, and concessions had been obtained from the Government. There was a feeling, however, that » larger organisation would mean greater progress. Mr. H. S. Izard, the secretary of the Auckland Association, said the fight against the duty should be taken up bv one body. It was slated six associations would soon be affiliated with the council, Hawke's Bay, the South Island and the south-west portion of the Island contained prospective citrus fruit* crowing areas. Mr. G. Green read a draft of the rules for discussion bv the meeting. _ Questions affecting the citrus fruit industry were discussed and later short addresses were given on fruit culture and planting.
