FAT STOCK MARKET.

WEEKLY WESTFIELD SALE. KEEN DEMAND FOR BEEF. There was again a keen demand' for beef at the weekly Westfiold stock side yesterday. Prices remained about on a par with those of last "week, but a firmer tone in the market was noticeable. Large numbers of sheep were yarded, a 'steady demand being shown. Prices did not change materially from late quotations. Higher prices ruled for spring lambs, and one lot from Mr. A. Sinton, of Riverhead, realised 365. Increased numbers were yarded, all selling readily. There was again a full yarding of calves, prices easing somewhat. . The demand was steady throughout. Stephenson and Company, Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Johnsonville sale held today as follows:—There was a small attendance of butchers present, to whom we submitted a small yarding of sheep and an average yarding of cattle. Spring lambs were yarded in larger numbers than in the last few weeks. The slneep offered comprised a fair proportion of shorn, and a dull sale resulted, prices showing a decline on last week's rates. The lambs yarded were of good quality and met with a ready sale. The cattle offered were of good quality, but the demand was slack. There were somewhat larger entries of fat sheep and fat cattle, and a much greater supply of spring lambs at Addington market to-day. The sale was a very keen one throughout, and there was a marked advance in prices for all classes. There wero practically no changes to note in fat sheep values, there being a steady demand throughout. A large entry of spring lambs was disposed of at a reduction of Is lo Is Gd per head in values. Thcro was a rather better tone in the store sheep market. Store cattlo met with good competition. Fat and store pigs were easier. A smaller mixed yarding of store sheep came forward, and there was a better sale than in the previous week, and fewer passings. Adult sheep were firm at late rates, shorn sheep selling comparatively better than those in wool. Hoggets were inclined to be easier. The best sale of the day was a line of 40G three-quarterbred ewe hoggets, which made 40is to 40s 3d. Prices were:—Good halfbred ewe hoggets, to 3Gs; short halfbred ewe hoggets, 08s; good three-quarterbred ewe hoggets, 3Gs to 40s 3d; three-quarterbred wether hoggets, to 31s 7d, halfbred wethers. 33s 7d to 33s 9d; shorn, 22s 4d to 2iis 3d: three-quarter-bred wethers, to 32s Gd; shorn. 22s -Id; halfbred ewes and lambs, 20s 3d to 21s 6d; three-quarterbred ewes and lambs, 21s 2d, all counted.
