OBITUARY.

MR, W. J. BROWN". The death of a prominent racing enthusiast, Mr. William John Brown, occurred at his home, Liverpool Street, Epsom, on Saturday. Mr. Brown, who was 67 years of age, was born at Onehunga. For many years he was engaged in the timber industry, mainly in the Northern Wairoa district, having started business as Brown Brothers and Company in partnership with his brother in 1875. He later took up farming on the Wairoa River, but returned to the timber industry to join Finlayson Brothers in bush contracts, retiring about 15 years ago. Mr. Brown was a member of tho Auckland Racing Club and a racehorse owner. He was a Freemason, belonging tot Lodge St. George, 1801 E.C. He was a well-known oarsman in his younger days. Mrs. Brown, who is <i daughter of the late Captain Stanaway, of Tokatoka, survives her husband. Tho funeral will take placo at Purewa Cemetery this morning. - MRS. C. WILLIAMSON. The funeral took place yesterday of Mrs. Charlotte Williamson, aged 79, who died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. Notion, of Oxford Terrace, Devonport. She was the widow of the late Mr. William Williamson, brassfounder, who died 20 years ago. They arrived in Auckland 54 years ago with three children. There are surviving three sons and six daughters, and there arc 13 grandchildren. MR. RANALD MACDONALD. [Bl* TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The death has occurred of Mr. Ranald Macintosh Macdonald at the age of 68 years. Mr. Macdonald was formerly a partner in the firm of Booth, Macdonald and Co., from which he retired in 1889. He was managing director of the Christchurch Tramway Cotnpany from its inception, and later became a director of the Christchurch Pres?. In wartime he worked in England as a member of the. New Zealand Red Cross and War Contingent- Association. Mr. Macdonald married ft daughter of Mr. George Gould. He leaves a family of three sons and two daughters. CANON HOANI PARATA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Monday. The death has occurred of Canon Hoani Parala vicar of Queenstown, aged 47 vears. Born in Dunedin, the son of Mr. John Parala, of Puketeraki, Mr. Parala was educated at Te Aute College and Sehvvn College. In 1907 he was assistant curate at St.' Paul's. Dunedin, and later ho went abroad. In 1911 lie was chaplain to the British Consulate in Naples, atul in 1912 lie held a similar post in Cartagena. Spain. He then went- to Engltiiid, and in 191314 was assistant carafe at St. Mark's, Kensington, London. He served in tho war in Egypt and Franco as p. chaplain in the N.Z.E.F., and in 191 v returned to regular parish work in Mew Zealand. Mr. Parata was the author of " The Maori of New Zealand—Past, 1 resent and Future." He married, in 1913, Mjss Margaret Cowie, and had a family ot four sons and one daughter.
