LOOKING FORWARD TO OPENING
Satisfaction with the action of tho Government in making a grant of £SOO for preliminary investigations was expressed &t a meeting of tho Auckland Harbour Bridge Association ilast evening. Mr. E. G. Skeatcs, Mayor of Birkenhead, pro sided. Mr. A. Harris, said the deputation to Wellington, comprising Messrs. G. O'Halloran, 11. H. Grevillo and R. F. Moore, civil engineer, put the case for the bridge well, and created a deep impression. The bridge had been brought within tho bounds of practicable achieve xnent in tho next five years. Ho was firmly convinced the Prime Minister would support the bridge rather than op pose it, realising tho strong public demand behind tho movement. "The project enjoys more prominence to-day than at any previous stage, and I look forward to tho opening ceremony," Mr. Harris said.
The survey ot' tho harbour hod would bo carried out by the Public Works Department in conjunction with the Marine .Department, and a report would be furnished on the route deemed most desirable. Tho borings would be taken along the cite suggested by tho association.
