ACCLIMATISATION WORK.

ESTIMATES FOR THE YEAR. QUAIL FROM NORFOLK ISLAND. The council of tho Auckland Acclimatisation Society met last evening, tho chairman, Mr. F. K. Mclvenzie, presiding. Estimates of revenue and expenditure for the year ending March, 1929, were submitted by the secretary, Mr. C. M. Gordon, tho excess of revenue being shown at £IOO. Tho total estimated receipts were £3177, the main items being shooting bcences, £2097; fishing, £759; deer, £3O; opossum, £SO; and god wit. £3l The main items of expenditure wero: —Rangers' salaries! £621; cost of pheasants, £6IX); bounty on hawks' feet, £260; secretary's salary, £218; payments fo. ttoui try, £315; cost of snipe and chukui. £130; and partridges, £B9.

The question of preparing an anglers' Kuidu and collecting information on fish ing during the close season was deferred until tun end of tho present season. Advice was received from tho Depart me.nt o> Interna) Affairs that permission to import SUO Virginian quail from Nor foil* Island had been granted. The chair man stated the birds were expected to arrivf shortly
