STEEPLECHASE FIASCO.
INCIDENTS AT RAN DWICK.
INVESTIGATION BY STEWARDS. (Received October 11, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 11. Tho stewards of tlio Australian Jockey Club are inquiring into n fiasco which occurred in the Dowling Steeplechase at Rand wick on Saturday Flipborn lost his rider early, Mendit hit a fence and had to ho pulled up, Chandonia lost his rider when ho appeared to bo winning five furlongs from homo and at tho next fenco Nameerah toppled over when ho had a lead of 15 lengths. This left Grey Knight, who had been tho medium of sensational backing, to win easily. The stewards are making an exhaustive inquiry into all tho circumstances. They had previously announced their suspicion that there was a jockeys' ring among cross-country ridel's in Sydney. Iho difficulties of the inquiry are very great, but if tho investigation into tho Dowling Steeplechaso fiasco should substantiate tho suspicion, sensational developments aro expected.
