Although tho militant members of tho "Waterside Workers' Council of Action rebuffed by the drivers and carters. tvlio have refused to join in the strike, they are now trying to extend the dispute to the railiwaymon and other organisations, including tug-boat. men.
A motion declaring tho Victoria Dock " black" is; expected to bn carried at a Tneoting to which tho railwaymen's representatives have been invited. At the present tho raihvaymen are handling goods discharged on tho wharves by volunteers. An attempt was made to interfere with tho carters at Port Melbourne to-day. Bales of wool wore dumped from lorries by the strikers, but the drivers managed to reload then) amid jeers from the crowd. The arrival of tho police prevented further molestation..
The shipowners are anxious to recoramission coastal vessels, but will not decide until the attitude of the seamen at all tho porta has been defined. Men who hold good discharges and are not members of tho Australian Seamen's Union have offered to mau ships. Tho Victorian seamen, at a meeting today, decided to refuse to man any ships. At Brisbano a mass meeting of waterfide workers and seamen to-day adopted ft resolution demanding that the Council of Trades Unions and the combined unions' executive should call upon all union waterside workers throughout Australia to
cease work, Another resolution carried was that tho oversea seamon should bo called out and that billeting should be arranged for them.
