THE SPRING HANDICAP.
SELECT FIELD ENGAGED.
SOME BRILLIANT PERFORMERS. BY PICADOR. A, select field of nine is carded to contest the Spring Handicap at Alexandra Park to-morrow and the wholo of thoso engaged are expected to compete. Several of the candidates have rftready displayed brilliant form this season and a splendid race ia promised. The limit horse. Jackie Audubon, is in favour, and he should be responsible for a bold showing. There were once doubts about his ability to run a fast two miles, but ho dispelled these by winning emily in 1.31 2-5 at Addington in August. Dulmeny, Loch Moigh and Talent are all solid racehorses handily placed, and they may comprise a dangerous division. Dalmeny would be nearly favourite on a wet track but in other circumstances Loch Moigh would be preferred. The latter scored brilliantly in 4.29 at Addington in August, when he defeated Western King by a length. .On that occasion Loch Moigh wa9 received 21 yards from Western King, who went 4.27 1-5. Now Western King comes in 12 yards hotter and he is so fit that ho must be very seriously considered. Coupled with Western King will be the local champion. Jewel Pointer, who recorded a brilliant performance in stepping 4.22 1-5 off 4.21 into second place in the National Cup. Again handicapped on 4.21 Jewel Pointer must be respected, and thcreforo tho bracket is likely to bo popular with backers. Gold Jacket has good recent form and is not too far back to make a bold showing. He is one of the most improved pacers in commission and has excellent condition. The othor candidates, Machine Gun and Kohara, do not appeal greatfy becuuse of their lack of recent form. Still they are fine pacers and would only need to repeat their best to be handy at the finish. As there is unlikely to be any track work to cause some of tho less-fancied horses to come into favour, it is probable the present fancies, Western King, Jewel Pointer, Loch Moigh and Jackie Audubon, may receive most attention. THE WAIKATO CLUB. NEXT MONTH'S MEETING. [ IVY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. The executive of the Waikato Trotting Club met this afternoon, the president, Mr. 11. W. Bitrch, presiding. A motion to include a saddlo race on tho programme for the December meeting was defeated. Although it was pointed out that such races in the past had meant increased totalisntor receipts, the opinion was expressed that these races were not desirable on the grounds that thero would bo difficulty in securing suitable jockeys. The programme for tho meeting on December 8 was passed. Tho stakeß total jfMSOO.
