NOTES ON THE FORM.

SOME FINE PERFORMANCES,

ASPIRING AND SILVER PAPER,

[BY TELEdBAFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN. Thursday. "With the exception of the three-year-old filly Prickles, the field for the Mosgiel Handicap at the Dunedin Meeting to-day was made up of New Zealand Cup candidates, jind tho racg was of considerable interest. Pink Note won in very decisive fashion and will have to be reckoned with at Ricrarton. Overdrawn showed better form than he has done for some time, and though ho may not stay two miles ho should win races this season. Footfall, making his first, appearance since the autumn, ran a really good race, which greatlv pleased hi 3 Ciid ndrnirer3.

Count Cavou.r was travelling in his best style 01 or tho last two furlongs and should win more his races. Bet Sail ran much bolow her Geraldino Cup form and her effort was disappointing. Hoylake suffered serious interference less than five furlongs from home, but he did not look like a winner even before he met the trouble. Diana's Lad outclassed the opposition in the First Hurdle Handicap. He went to the front early and never looked in danger of defeat. He is an improving horse who has not reached his best. Phastar showed attractive form when he won the Maungatua Handicap. Lie was well placed ull through and finished on better Ihau any of his; rivals. More will be heard of him. '' Pound Note mado a one-horse race of She Trial Stakes being in front from end to end and never looking as if ho would bo caught. It is probable ho was lucky in the fact that Starshooter struck trouble. little over half a mile from home through galloping on the hcola of a horao in front of her. The incident prevented any lino being obtained regarding her prospects. Silver Paper Bcored a vory easy win in tlio Electric Handicap after being in front nil the way. lie seems destined to take high honours in any events he contests this season. He should run well in tho Dnuedin Guineas on Saturday. Tripaway gave further evidence that she is a greatlv improved mare. She lost a lot of ground at the start and with an ounce of luck would havo given the winner a harder race. Koyal Saxon's form can be disregarded as his rider lost a stirrup on the journey.

The easy win scored by Koyal Tractor in the Taioma Handicap waa an attractive effort. He broke the opposition uo in the eiirly stages by hi 3 brilliant speed and never looked like being caught. Ho has had three wins and a second during tho last three weeks and is improving with

each race. Lucy Locket has run soveral useful races this season and het reward enmo in the October Handicap in which sho always held a good position and finished up by outstaying the opposition. Further successes may be expected before long as she is very well. Quarterdeck gave a creditable performance and just failed to stall off Lucv Locket at the finish. Tho race should bo of benefit to her. SECOND DAY'S EVENTS. HANDICAPS DECLARED. [tVV TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Thursday. Tho immediate racing campaign of Oratrix. Concentrate and Cimabue depends on how they progress after their Sydney trip. Oiatrix looks to have done best and Cimabue pleases more than Concentrate. The Breeders' Plato winner Gold Tingo is temporarily located at Trent ham and his looks alone will earn hi.-ji many supporters for the Wellesley Stakes. lie cantered once round this morning on (lie plough, moving most attractively. There is no doubt that ho has thrived on his racing and travelling and is in great order. Courtlike, Push. Sapient, Ducllona and Miss Kene were schooled at tho barrier and all jumped away well except tho lastnamed. Afterwards tho other four were sprinted three furlongs. Endorse arrived from P'llerslio this morning and rejoined H. lelford a string.
