TAURANGA, Thursday

The Tauranga Borough Council decided last evening to fake steps to raise a loan of £2300 for building a public library and ladies' rest room, and also loans totalling £13,8.50 for extending the sewerage system and providing an outfall to tho Waikareoa .estuary. The council decided not to proceed at present with a proposal to raise » loan for municipal baths. A deputation from the Tauranga Domain Board Availed on tho council, and asked that electric appliances for heating water be provided by the council on tho domain, tho hoard being willing to erect a building to house the plant. The council referred tho matter to the Mayor and the engineer, with power to act. Mr. H. Watkinson, district engineer of the Public Works Department, in replying to a letter from (lie council in regard to Dive Crescent, said the department had carried out llie arrangement with the council and formed tho road, which he thought would be quite satisfactory if properly maintained. The council adopted « motion asking the department to put the road in order. The Assistant Public Trustee, Auckland, advised that (he balance of Ihe Tiequest to tho Tauranga Borough under the will of tho late Sir William Herries, including interest to September 30, was £623 6s.
