ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL.
BUILDING OF THE- FUTURE.
SITE QUESTION SETTLED. AROUSING" PUBLIC INTEREST. The permanent Church of England Cathedral, which it is hoped to erect in Parnell when funds permit, was referred to by Archbishop Avcrill in bis address to synod yesterday. The purposo of a kill recently passed by General Synod, he said, was to differentiate definitely and finally between church properties in Auckland which belonged to the General Church I rust, the income from which is administered by the General Synod, and those which were purely diocesan and intended solely for the uso of the Diocese of Auckland. 1 lie passing of tho bill meant that the cathedral site and the bishop's house site were now recognised and acknowledged to be tho property of the diocese and were quite separate and distinct from other properties in Parnell, which wore, and always had been, provincial. "Tho passing of the bill has cleared away for ever any doubts as to the legal ownership of tho cathedral and bishop s house sites," tho Primate added. "It has given a further impetus to tho desiro to build upon tho commanding site in Parnell a cathedral worthy of commemorating the work of the great and only Bishop of New Zealand and worthy of tho mother diocese of tho Church of this province." Many years might elapse before it would be possible even to think of building part of the cathedral, but now that the site was definitely secured and tho building fund started it was hoped public support and enthusiasm would be aroused. The cathedral commission reported to synod that a total of £lOsl now stood to tho credit of the building fund. The annual revenue from the cathedral site was £199, subject to reduction for land tax. It was now proposed the present building fund should be augmented by the annual revenue of the present site.
