NEW TYNE BRIDGE.

GREAT NEWCASTLE SPAN. KING AND QUEEN TO OPEN. (-Received October 10, 5.5 p.m.) British "Wireless. RUGBY, Oct. 9. King George and Queen Mary will break their journey from Balmoral, where they have recently been in residence, and tomorrow will open the new Tyne Bridge. This spans the river at Newcastle. The two existing railway bridges across (he Tyne at Newcastle were also opened by Royalty. One of litem was built, by the great engineer, Robert Stephenson, and was opened bv ihe late Queen Victoria in 1849. Tho new bridge is intended for road traffic only. The structure, i* a high-level bridge of * single span. It is 531 feet long and is the largest sieel arch yet constructed in (his country. Tho total cost of the bridge and its approaches exceeds £1,000,000.
