TO-DAY'S WEATHER.

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent, last evening:—Squally and unsettled weather is indicated, with heavy showers, particularly in west coast districts and southern areas, accompanied by hail ■ arjd thunder at times. Southerly to southwesterly winds, strong to gale. Rough seas on the southern Tasman Sea and the west coast of New Zealand, and-.fairly rough off shore on tho east, coast. The intenso Antarctic disturbance ivliiqh has resulted in stormy weather in many places, particularly in Southern districts, has now extended northwards, and the general outlook indicates stormy conditions, with rain generally. Conditions are likely to improve everywhere shortly, improved conditions ruling first in the South, and gradually moving northward. An area of ;high barometric pressure, cm bracing a fine weather system, is advanc ing from tho west. Expect colder temperatures and a general increase in atmospheric pressuro. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows. —An intenso depression ot the westerly type was crossing New Zealand to-day. A moderate anticyclone is moving from the westward on to Eastern Australia. Indications aro for strong west to south-west winds to gales, and reaching a strong gale in places. Seas rough generally, except in parts of the eastern coastal waters, strong southwesterly winds to gales and rough seas in the Eastern Tasman. Weather squally and showery generally, with snow on parts of tho high lands and hail in places, but improving gradually. Cold . temperatures with somo inland frosts. RAINFALL RECORD.
