HENDERSON BUS SERVICE.
Sir, —May I bog a space to protest against tho methods employer] in running a late bus at night to Henderson ? On Monday last I went to Ilis Majesty's Theatre, and, leaving before the end of the play, caught the 10.40 p.m. zoo tram, as per the tramway department's timetables, in order to catch the last, bus out. The. tram stopped for a short while outside St. James' Theatre, to pick up the people and in consequence was about five minutes late at Surrey Crescent. Seeing no sign of a 1 -us, I consulted the timetable at the corner of the street anil saw that the Henderson bus wiis due to leave at one minute to eleven. However, taking it for granted that it would naturally wait for the connecting tram, I came to the conclusion that it, too, must be late, and I waited ten minutes. Then, seeing the Glen Eden bus. I asked the driver for information and ho told me that my bus had gone. I proceeded to take a ticket, contemplating getting somo conveyance from Glen Eden, but. as the driver seemed to think that this would be impossible, 1 decided to return to town and get a taxi. Tho driver said that, as I had got a ticket, I must pay for it, and as such stark, staring poverty, either personal or on tho pari of the tramway department, always touches me, I was glad to let him have the shilling. I returned to town, got a taxi and paid ]ss to get out to Henderson. Under the circumstances 1 wish to know why the tramways trouble to issue a time table at all if there is to bo no co-operation between trams and buses? Under the present circumstances no Henderson resident can enjoy the benefit of seeing good acting or hearing good music with tho comfortable assurance that ho will be able to get home that night. In all probability he will not, whether he adheres strictly to a time-table or no. I am sufficiently optimistic to hope that, one day, these conditions will be altered. At the present moment they are a slur on tho otherwise efficient workings of a civilised city. Eairplat.
