RHODES SCHOLARSHIP.
CANTERBURY NOMINATION. MR. PHILIP L. M. SOLJAK. [IIX TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. The Professorial Board of Canterbury College to-night decided to nominate for selection as a Rhodes scholar Mr. Philip Leonard Mathew Soljak. Mr. Sol jack, who is 21 years of age, attended the Tauranga District High School and the Marisfc Brothers' School, Auckland. In 1921 ho entered the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, with a scholar, ship. He was dux of the school in 1924 and 1925, in the latter year winning a junior university scholarship. He entered Canterbury College in 1926 and was awarded the Piobert Bell Scholarship in journalism at the college. He was a member of the Drama Society and gained second place in the Dialectic Society's competitions in 1926. He played second grade football in 1926 and 1927, and was runner-up in the collego swimming championship.
