UNUS UA h A I'M OS J.'HE RIC E F L-'ECT. [llV TEL EG II Al'U—l'll ESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Monday. Wellington "was treated fo-day to meteorological conditions of a. distinctly uncanny character. After a night of howling wind, with gusts that shook the houses and tested the fences, tho day broke grey, drear and tompestuous. The cabin messages reported Sydney as being under a pull of "suspended dust," and that its general direction was toward JS'cw Zealand. Whether this dust could travel as far as New Zealand in the time or not has not been established, but the fact remained that between 0.30 a 111. and 11.30 a.m. tho light from abovo hardly corresponded with that which usually prevails in grey, murky weather It was a dull, sickly, yellow light, not unlike the effect gained when one-.looks at tho world through amber-tinted glasses, and tho only 'ikcly explanation for ilus effect offered was that it might be duo to the action of tho sun's rays coming through a pall of tho suspended dust referred to in llio cablo message. Curiously enough, as soon as rain fell the yellow tinge faded from tho colour scheme.
